Obesity Tax – a Looming Health Disaster!

The governor of New York has proposed the largest tax hike in the history of New York State! Of the many taxes proposed, he wants to increase the tax on sodas - BUT NOT DIET SODAS! To be honest, I'm not surprised because most people and politicians know NOTHING about health and weight loss...and many people are not aware of the dangers of 'diet' foods and artificial sweeteners. But this is a disaster for several reasons...it will encourage people on lower incomes who already buy sodas to start buying diet sodas as they will be about 25 cents cheaper....it's part of the new 'Obesity Tax' which is nothing but an ILLUSION championed by those who know NOTHING about health or weight loss. Personally, I think sodas are one of the worst things produced on the planet...and diet sodas are even worse. What's wrong with diet sodas? First, take a look at regular sodas which are not as damaging as diet sodas....but wait till you keep reading and discover the hidden dangers of 'diet' sodas that are making people fat and triggering cravings & depression... The real problem with soda is not the 10-14 teaspoons of sugar or HFCS (which in of itself is poisonous to the human body), but the high levels of phosphrous which create mineral imbalances in your blood....which causes a leaching of calcium from blood and bones. Oh wait...they are also high in calories and sugar, low in nutrients... Sodas have 10 - 14 teaspoons of sugar, about 150 calories, 30 to 55 mg of caffeine & loaded with artificial colors and sulphites (allergenic to many...causes inflammation). Sugar (esp in liquid form) increases insulin levels which can lead to diabetes, weight gain, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, heart disease, premature aging and a boatload of other problems.... Most sodas are over 100 % RDA of sugar. The acids in soda dissolve tooth enamel within 20 minutes of exposure (how many of you brush your teeth every single time after you drink soda?) The more sugar and caffeine you drink - the sooner your develop vitamin and mineral imbalances and imbalanced brain chemistry (which leads to cravings, addictions and mood swings) But the REAL problem in 100% of overweight and depressed clients I have worked with..... Diet soda...

which has more caffeine than regular soda (even ‘Mellow Yellow’ – ha!) has caffeine – on the other hand has artificial sweetener which is a neurotoxin (poisonous to the brain) and probable carcinogen and highly disruptive to hormonal levels (hormonal management is how you burn fat and prevent premature aging).

Artificial sweeteners trigger brain chemistry imbalance and cravings and mood imbalances…just look at kids today and its crystal clear what this crap does to people.

Artificial sweeteners are proven to cause obesity, diabetes, brain tumors, birth defects, mood disorders and even epilispsy (seizures).

Aspartame (artifical sweetener) when temperature reaches 102 degrees..such as when stored for long periods of time (shipping or on store shelves) or kept in warm areas (Tropical areas) or even when ingested into our bodies after a workout or when training outdoors (remember our bodies are normally 98.6 which means its not too difficult to get to 102)… it is converted into methanol, an alcohol that converts to formaldehyde and formic acid, which are known carcinogens.

The artificial sweeteners (including splenda) trick your body into releasing insulin (because it is sweet and the brain perceives it as a carb & carbs are managed w insulin) but since there is no actual calorie, the extra insulin is now a problem…it can easily be converted into bodyfat or even cause damage to other organ systems since it most likely cannot be utilized by the liver (its not a food so the human body can not recognize it)

…do this over years (like most children are doing now) and you end up w hormonal imbalance, metabolic syndrome and an entire generation of children who are diabetic or overweight as we see today….

Sodas are garbage…diet sodas are worse…they are poisonous to the brain and nervous system and I personally think its unethical and should be illegal to market it and sell it to children…

Sugar is one of the worst foods you can eat…soda is worse

The US government gives more subsidized money to sugar manufacturers than any other industry in this country and its one of the worst things for people

The human being is designed to drink nothing but water….so stick to water… and occasional protein shake if its actually healthy…raw milk if you can get it and if your body can tolerate it….and occasionally freshly squeezed juice (only if you see it being squeezed) and you will burn fat, build muscle and not end up w some weird disease when your 40 yrs old…..

Avoid ANYTHING labeled ‘Diet’ or ‘Low Fat’ or ‘Reduce Calorie’ – these are highly processed foods that DO NOT EXIST IN NATURE and are damaging to your brain and body.

  1. Thank you for sharing your thoughts on this.

I’m curious to know your sources for some of the statements made. I’d like to dig a bit deeper into the science and research conducted on the artificial sweeteners, specifically.

You mentioned, “Artificial sweeteners are proven to cause obesity, diabetes, brain tumors, birth defects, mood disorders and even epilispsy (seizures).” Do you have references for this?

I’m also interested in the reference(s) for, “The artificial sweeteners (including splenda) trick your body into releasing insulin (because it is sweet and the brain perceives it as a carb & carbs are managed w insulin) but since there is no actual calorie, the extra insulin is now a problem…it can easily be converted into bodyfat or even cause damage to other organ systems since it most likely cannot be utilized by the liver (its not a food so the human body can not recognize it)”

    Thank you for your time.

  2. I just want to testify that artificial sweeteners are exactly as you stated. I found out recently, that when I ingest artificial sweeteners, they cause me to go on a food binge. Over the last 3 years I have lost 100 pounds. So, mine is by experience. Thank you for the article.

I have done a LOT of research on artificial sweeteners during the course of my recent fatloss transformation. (I have gone from 244 pounds to 186 since June.) I have read all I could get my hands on pro and con. And my net conclusion, is while there is anecdotal evidence that some individuals react badly to certain artificial sweeteners, there is NO EVIDENCE that artificial sweeteners are harmful to humans in the amounts actually ingested. (Too much of anything is toxic, however, even water).

Most of the anti artificial sweetener hysteria seems to be simply that, just like the anti protein hysteria – from one study that has been misinterpreted and misquoted.

There is only proof of one thing – too much sugar is VERY bad for people and will lead to excess body fat.

I would much rather take my chances with splenda. i don’t drink soda, diet or otherwise, but I love to cook with splenda and use it in my tea and coffee. This helps me control my appetite and reduce cravings. YMMV, but I highly reccomend doing your own homework and checking sources before accepting anti artifical sweetener dogma, even from usually trusted sources.
